ZSÁMBÉK FUNDRAISING EVENING - SATURDAY 24 OCTOBER 2009 Saturday 24th October saw a full hall for our Zsambek Fundraising Evening - there was a waiting list for tickets! There is a lot of hidden talent in our Parish! Many thanks to Colin and Angela Bailey and the Parish Zsambek 'Think Tank' for organising the evening and very many thanks to all our talented contributors and to all who paid so generously for the privilege of helping our families in Zsambek.
VISIT OF MARTY HAUGEN - 18 OCTOBER 2009
Marty Haugen with the music group in the Priory church We were greatly blessed when Marty Haugen, the leading composer of contemporary liturgical music, paid a second visit to the Priory on Sunday 18 October to meet the parish music group, parishioners and Priory community. Marty's initial visit took place in July 2007: he had been commissioned by the Priory to compose a new Mass setting celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Norbertine Order in Storrington. We have used this Mass (whose working title is the 'Storrington Mass') on many occasions, most notably when Cardinal Cormac came to celebrate the 125th Anniversary with us on the Solemnity of Our Lady of England on Monday 24th September 2007. The 'Storrington Mass' setting takes into account the new ICEL Mass translation which is due to be implemented in England and Wales within the next few years. The workshop with the music group and parishioners was followed by lunch in the Priory hall.
CAFOD HARVEST SUPPER - 3 OCTOBER 2009
Terry Lane, Parish Pastoral Council Chairman and member of the Parish CAFOD Support Group, thanks people for attending.
Our very well attended and hugely successful CAFOD Harvest Supper was held on the evening of Saturday 3 October in the Priory Hall. The evening was organised by the Parish CAFOD Support Group in conjunction with the Social Events Team. There was a choice of Shepherd's Pie or Fish Pie and the evening included a raffle and also a quiz about the names of the different autumn foliages picked by Jane d'Alton earlier in the day! Details of the amount raised for CAFOD will be posted on this website soon.
DENNIS ANSCOMBE - 75 YEARS AS A ALTAR SERVER
On the Feast of Corpus Christi, 1934, Dennis made his First Holy Communion. The following Sunday he served at Mass for the first time at Our Lady of England Priory Church - and he has been serving ever since!
Our Parish Community celebrated his 75 years of ministry at the 10.00am Mass on Sunday 14 June and we continued our celebration afterwards with a sherry and chocolate cake reception!
We are very grateful to Dennis for his faithful commitment in serving and for introducing others to this important ministry.
