A LETTER FROM BISHOP KIERAN

Message for Storrington Parish Mission.

I am delighted to hear that the Parish of Our Lady of England in Storrington is holding a Parish Mission to coincide with the Pope's visit.

From my own time as 'a parishioner' I know what a lively and committed parish this is. and how lucky you are to have the services of the Norbertine community.

I wish you many blessings at this time, and I hope that with the help of the Sion community, you will find this a time of spiritual renewal, and a moment of great grace. I encourage you to renew your participation in the liturgy, to deepen your awareness and knowledge of the Scriptures and to strengthen your relationship with the Lord through a greater commitment to prayer.

With my own good wishes and prayers,

+ Kieran

Bishop of Arundel and Brighton.

PROGRAMME FOR WEEK ONE

The Sion team will attend 9am Mass each day in the first week to share their faith so it will be an opportunity to pray with them and meet after Mass.

Sion COMMUNITY Parish Mission Team Statement

The Sion Community Parish Mission Team consists of priests, religious and lay people who are committed to proclaiming the Gospel in an encouraging and challenging way. Whilst recognising our own need for constant conversion and renewal, we seek to present the person of Jesus and invite a new openness to the Holy Spirit.

bullet

Using a collaborative model, we work in partnership with the parish during the mission process.

bullet

We work with parishioners enabling them to discover and use their God-given gifts and abilities in the service of others.

bullet

We encourage and equip parishioners to reach out to others and share their faith.

bullet

We develop and foster the community dimension of parish life and exhort parishes to be outward looking, particularly through welcome, openness and service for the up-building and advancement of the Kingdom.

bullet

We seek to be open and sensitive to the particular needs of individual parish communities.

"The obvious importance of the content of evangelisation must not overshadow the importance of the ways and means.

This question of 'how to evangelise' is permanently relevant, because the methods of evangelising vary according to the different circumstances of time, place and culture, and because they thereby present a certain challenge to our capacity for discovery and adaptation."

Evangelii Nuntiandi, §40

The aim of the Mission process is to encourage and renew the practising Catholics of the parish in their faith, enabling them eventually to reach out to the wider community. We would also hope that, through publicity and word of mouth, we will be able to welcome back those who, for whatever reason, are not practising their faith.
