 Anthony Davy has done background notes for the Sunday Readings, primarily as information for the Readers. This is in line with the Apostolic Exhortation Verbum Domini in which the Pope is trying to encourage a greater love and understanding of Holy Scripture, especially as proclaimed in the Liturgy. One of the ways for this to come about is for the Readers to have a greater knowledge of the background to the particular reading. There will also be some extra copies in the porch for parishioners who are interested. These notes are based on the introductory commentaries to the individual books of the Bible and the footnotes to the individual books found in the New Jerusalem Bible and are the copyright of the publishers, Darton Longman and Todd.
